To make room for the furnace return this CMU support was cut. Altering the support this way compromises it's strength. A structural engineer was recommended for further evaluation.

This main waste line is being supported on the edge of a CMU, this is not an acceptable method of support. The support hangers used are undersized and had to be replaced.

If my  inspection uncovers  problems in a home, it does not necessarily mean you should not buy it, only that you will know in advance what type of repairs to anticipate. A seller may be willing to make repairs because of significant problems discovered by the inspector. If your budget is tight, or if you do not wish to become involved in future repair work, you may decide that this is not the property for you. The choice is yours.
